Dear Friends and Interested Flyers
Having just completed an exceptional season, we now have the opportunity to send you some news on what has been happening at Flyinn New Zealand. Our guests this season were totally enthusiastic about their experiences. For us this is very rewarding. Our guests are adventurous and interesting people and it is a pleasure to host them.
In February Barbara and Key from California spent part of their honeymoon with us. This is what they wrote ..... "It was a wonderful combination of fun flying, beautiful scenery, fantastic meals and great conversation. The hosts and pilot guides were superb, and we really enjoyed our time with them"
We had some repeat visitors, and many guests left saying
well be back. Now wed like to invite you down-under to join us for a wonderful time.
A unique aspect of Flyinn is the variation it can provide. This begins with the flying. In the morning you may be at sea level landing on a beach. Later fly through the mountains and in valleys to land at the head of a deep Fiord. Then on the way home, climb around pristine high peaks and glaciers. At Flyinn we specialize in mountain and back-country strip flying. It often will be different to anything else you will have experienced. Some of the landing strips are in wilderness areas, some in high country farming areas, an early gold town, others allow some shopping and a good coffee! All are interesting, provide some unique camera footage, and because the flying distances are short (20mins 2hrs max) you have time to enjoy them
In the mountains your personal guide pilot rides in the right hand seat, and is available to help with navigation, local weather considerations, mountain routes, organisation on the ground and generally to make sure you are having a vacation as well as an adventure.
When you are not flying with us, the many other activities available include: Joining in with with station activities, mustering sheep and cattle. Or simply enjoy a walk or bike ride in the peaceful valley where flyinn is based. Or a hike in our nearby national parks.
Take a vehicle and visit the wine-growing region which is blossoming in Central Otago, with many excellent vineyards and restaurants displaying the best that Central has to offer. Gliding (near-by Omarama is a world-renown gliding area), flying vintage aircraft, i.e. a tiger moth, or taking a ride in an L39 jet, these are a few of the other aviation related options available here.
A new Guide Pilot Stuart, joined Matt, Kelvin and Luke, early this year to add some further flexibility to our professional and friendly team. This meant that while Matt and Luke were guiding our regular guests, Stuart joined the Campbell Air Race Team for the Round New Zealand Air Race, in March /April of this year. How did Stu manage to swing that fun job ?? The Campbell team was lead by US Flyinn guests from last season. (Flyinn facilitated their NZ Air Race entry with provision of a Cessna 206 and guide pilot).
New landing strips were added and we created a variation tour to a completely new area for our return guests.
We had a young group from the UK that included a current British Air Force Tornado pilot and his friends.
One of them flew himself round New Zealand by helicopter. The guiding of this group with three fixed wings and the tag along copter was interesting and fun.
UK Pilot magazine printed a seven page centre spread on Flyinn, entitled Lord of the Wings, (written by Maurice, a past guest) for their feature article in the February 04 issue.
We added to our wardrobe with a practical and stylish Merino Wool vest which the Flyinn Team wore all the time. Many guests liked the look, and the warmth, so we ordered more and they have gone home with their own
The Chefs skills are becoming a legend, and dinner is most definitely one of the highlights of the Flyinn experience. Jo has also spent considerable time and attention on carefully stocking the Flyinn wine cellar, so that guests will enjoy particularly good New Zealand wines.
Some new and interesting North Island locations were explored. Flyinn this season has been on back country strips around the East Cape (One ends on the main street beside the pub !!) and also Great Barrier Island, Ninety Mile Beach, and Waiheke Island.
We now have increased accommodation. Two guest cottages are available at on our main base at Geordie Hill, while at nearby Shirlmar Station guests enjoy superb B&B style accommodation with hosts Peter and Lee Davis
.
Thanks to our guests for making this season so good and to many of them for sending us CDs full of pics from their holiday. In fact all of the pic's in this newsletter have been taken by guests.
There will be more because each season we are working to improve on what we already do, to make your stay really and truly unique.
In July we will be at the PFA rally in the UK and then on to EAA Airventure, at Oshkosh in the USA. Please come and visit on our stand if you are attending either of these shows. For those interested in flying with us it is a great opportunity to get all the information you need. We can also discuss other things you might want to see and do when you journey "down under"
A new venture we are particularly looking forward to is the Flyinn Muster .This will be an informal gathering of past guests to be held one evening at PFA and also at Oshkosh. A great opportunity to catch up and share highlights of their adventures.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to read our up-date. We hope you have enjoyed it. Attached please find detailed itineraries and prices for this season, and please visit our website at www.flyinn.co.nz
We are happy to correspond via email to answer any queries.
If you are considering traveling this season, we advise that you enquire shortly to avoid disappointment. Space is quite limited during some parts of the season, which runs from October through April.
