Dear Friends and Interested Flyers
Hello and welcome to our Flyinn Update.
For the season coming up you will find itineraries, prices, and tour dates plus useful travel information in the attached PDF file.
We already have heavy bookings especially for the January to April period, however there are a few spaces left. To avoid disappointment, please email soon if you wish to fly with us during that time.
**For those who book a pre Christmas adventure... we are offering a bonus of two hour extra mountain and strip flying. This is for bookings confirmed before the end of June - so email us now!!**
At this stage of the year, we like to spend time reflecting on the season we have just finished.
There is a lot of positive energy expended on Flyinn during the course of a season, but there is even more received. Our team at Flyinn always end their days with smiling faces. No two days are the same - it's definitely about helping to make each day even more wonderful than the one our guests have just had. And we do!
An early start to the season, in August, with guests who had attended the World 99's Conference held in Christchurch NZ, was a new event. Grant and Leslie had a fantastic week flying crisp clear air. The views stretched forever, and the mountains, laden with snow, were even more spectacular.
Jimmy Bowen joined Flyinn in November and quickly became a valued member of the team, as full time guide pilot and instructor. Our guests enjoyed and appreciated his relaxed, friendly style and professional approach. Previous Flyinn guide pilots joined the us during the season, and it was great to have them back on board for a time. Thank you to a fantastic team!
Highlights from the season included quite a variety of adventures:
Guests from Alaska, who have become firm friends enjoyed a special week with Flyinn. This trip was the culmination of years of planning. Lee and Cilla of Raspberry Island Remote Camp along with friends from Anchorage helped create a very memorable week. It couldn't have been fuller, or more fun. Thanks guys, and our other guests Ted and Anna say so too.
Engagement at Stewart Island took a tiny bit of extra organizing, and was a great cause for celebration. We try to ensure our guests are always smiling, and these guys were positively radiant! We felt privileged to be a part of this special time, and wish the Mark and Cathy blue skies and tail- winds for the future.
Friends and the 206: we have often written of the merits of joining with friends to experience New Zealand with Flyinn. If you can possibly experience your adventure this way - then do - you will be rewarded. Don and Carol, along with Larry and Ardy had a most wonderful and memorable time which they will share forever. Their comments are on our home page. After completing their 11 day tour, they enquired about, and opted to extend to the north island for another 5 days. This was a diversion from our usual tours, and we enjoyed planning and completing this with them.
Taieri Gorge Train, birthday surprise: as a special request by Karen, Flyinn organized this surprise for Scott's birthday. The option was seized by all the guests at the time, and everyone relaxed for a wonderful journey via a spectacular gorge into the hinterland of Otago. A quiz about the fuel requirements of the diesel engine caused some frantic calculations. The prize was won by the youngest member of the group - James (14!!) and was quickly changed from the bottle of Central Otago Pinot Noir, to a McDonalds; voucher!
We take pride in having the ability to 'make things work'. This was one such occasion, and was even better because everyone joined in. Thanks Karen and Scott.
Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow was held again this year at Easter. Due to popular demand we had three planes operating. This created a wonderful, lively group for our end of season tour. The airshow was enjoyed featuring the NZ Airforce, an F111 arrival, aerobatic displays and a number of rare Warbirds flying. The mock air raid and response is always a highlight of the show, and continued to be so this year.
Farming operations at Geordie Hill are always a popular point of interest. With 7000 sheep and 200 cattle there is always something happening. Some guests just enjoy feeding the pet lamb or watching a skilled shepherd and his team of sheepdogs. This season became quite intense as the dry continued. The centre pivot irrigator which had been installed last year really proved its worth. We were pleased to emerge from the drought with minimal effect on our stock and pasture health.
Immediate plans for us now involve updating our website. Please check this out. We've changed a few things and added updates from this season. Also, dowloadable video clips of beach and strip landings and backcountry flying.
For those in the UK we will be at AeroExpo (June 23 - 25, Hanger A booth 33) at Wycombe, a new and exciting expose, of General Aviation in Europe. And of course for the US we will again be at Air Venture, Oshkosh (July24 - 30, Hanger B booth 2149). If you are planning to be at either of these, call by and see us. Watch our DVD, find out about New Zealand and, ask questions, we are very happy to help.
Thank you for your interest in Flyinn Tours. Please email any queries you may have. Or just to let us know you are there and have enjoyed receiving our news.
We hope our flight paths meet again some day. And meanwhile we wish you safe and happy flying.
With our best wishes,
Jo and Matt.
